Assistant Principal - Austin Smith
My name is Austin Smith. I was born and raised in the Fort Worth area. I graduated with a degree in secondary education from Howard Payne University. I knew at an early age that I wanted to be in education, and I didn't want to waste any more time getting into the classroom. During my last year at HPU, I was given the opportunity to start my career teaching abroad in Mianyang, China, a suburb of Cheng-du, the capital city of the Sichuan province. From there, I accepted a position as an English & Creative Writing teacher at Bridgeport High School in Bridgeport, TX. Shortly after, I started my master's program in educational leadership at Dallas Baptist University. After graduation, I accepted a position as an instructional coach at the same campus. After three years as an instructional coach, I was given the opportunity to assist Midlothian ISD with their implementation of TEKS Resource System and 1:1 rollout, as well as serve as the secondary English and Social Studies instructional specialist for the district. My time spent out of the classroom has allowed me to see the fine details that occur behind the scenes that help make our schools so great. I have witnessed the incredible impact a teacher can have on his or her students. By far, being a part of the admin team at Baxter JH is one of the most humbling and exciting opportunities that I have yet to experience. I am excited to be a part of a campus that is 110% laser-focused on what is best for their students and a district devoted to building capacity for their faculty and staff.
My wife, Chelsea, and I are new residents of Arlington, TX. Chelsea is a NICU nurse at Texas Health Presbyterian in Dallas. During our spare time, we like to try new restaurants, go see movies, and spend quality time with family and friends.
